IAEA scheduled inspection under way at Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in wake of SUNPP
5 to 10 April, 2021, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is holding a scheduled inspection at the Zaporizhzhya NPP in the framework of the Agreement with Ukraine in pursuance of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. The inspection is aimed at confirmation of unreported nuclear material absence, as well as checking information regarding the nuclear installation design provided by our country in accordance with mentioned Agreement.
In addition to the available amount of nuclear materials, IAEA representatives inspect the maintenance of control units and the installation of seals on the "cooling pond - wet refuelling pond" transport hole. They also check the accounting, operating and reporting documents for nuclear materials and information on the installation design.
For reference: the previous regular inspection at ZNPP was successfully conducted by the International Atomic Energy Agency representatives on March 12–28, 2021, who inspected unit 1 and the spent nuclear fuel dry storage facility (SFDSF). Furthermore, on March 29-31, 2021, IAEA inspectors jointly with the inspector of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine inspected the South Ukraine NPP.
